Year 7 Residential Adventure at PGL Marchants Hill

6th to 8th October 2025
To kick off their secondary school journey, our Year 7 pupils took part in a truly unforgettable experience: St Mary’s first-ever residential trip to PGL Marchants Hill, held from 6th to 8th October. Set within over 45 acres of stunning countryside in the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the centre provided the perfect setting for pupils to build friendships, grow in confidence, and create lasting memories outside the classroom.
The trip was centred around PGL's UNITE! programme, which is designed specifically for Year 7 students to support their transition into secondary school. Through a carefully structured blend of adventure, teamwork, and fun, pupils developed essential life skills such as resilience, communication, and collaboration—all while having an incredible time with their peers.
Throughout the trip, pupils took part in a wide range of exciting activities, including high ropes, survival skills, creative challenges, and an evening campfire. These experiences encouraged them to step out of their comfort zones and work together, all while having fun in a safe and supportive environment.
Here’s what some of our pupils had to say:
“I enjoyed going to PGL because it was so adventurous and I got to make more friends from other forms. I enjoyed the Giant Swing – although I’m scared of heights!” – Darcie (Year 7)
“I enjoyed PGL because it was super adventurous and I had a good time with my friends, including the Giant Swing.” – Isla (Year 7)
“I loved trying new things and making new friends!” – Pupil (Year 7)
“We did Laser Tag, Jacob’s Ladder and the Giant Swing. I got to spend more time with my friends away from school. I had the adventure of a lifetime!” – King (Year 7)
We would like to extend a huge thank you to the incredible instructors at PGL Marchants Hill for leading our activities with enthusiasm and care. Special thanks also go to the St Mary’s staff who accompanied the trip and made it such a memorable experience.
In particular, we are immensely grateful to Ms Anderson-Vilardell, our Head of Year 7 Curriculum & Transition, for organising and leading the residential. Her dedication ensured the trip was not only a great success but also a truly unforgettable experience for all involved.
