On Monday, 29th June, the Feast Day of Saints Peter and Paul, our Year 7 pupils took part in their now annual pilgrimage to Aylesford Priory. Set on the banks of the River Medway near Maidstone in Kent, the visit offered pupils a meaningful opportunity to experience life within a Carmelite Priory.

Aylesford Priory—also known as The Friars—is a place of great historical and spiritual importance, particularly for the Carmelite Order. Founded in 1242 as the first Carmelite house in England, it holds a central place in Carmelite tradition. The Priory is also believed to be where St Simon Stock received his vision of the Brown Scapular. Carmelites have a deep devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary under the title of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, who is also our school’s patron saint. She is honoured as a guiding presence, protector, and source of inspiration in their lives of prayer and service.

Our pupils—accompanied by staff—were able to fully engage in the day’s activities. They explored three key areas of the Priory: the Relic Chapel, the Peace Garden, and the Rosary Walk. At each location, pupils completed workbook tasks and were encouraged to reflect on both the beauty of their surroundings and their own spiritual journeys.

At midday, the entire year group joined fellow pilgrims for the celebration of Mass in the Relic Chapel. The Mass was concelebrated by four Carmelite friars, including the Prior, Fr Michael Cox O.Carm, providing a memorable and reflective experience for all.

We are also very grateful to Mr Davis for leading the pilgrimage, and to all members of staff who supported the visit and helped make it such a meaningful occasion for our pupils.
