Year 11s watch Romeo and Juliet at The Globe Theatre

 Thursday, 5th March 2026

Year 11 pupils enjoyed a wonderful opportunity to immerse themselves in Shakespeare’s world as preparation for their upcoming GCSE examinations with a visit to The Globe Theatre on Thursday, 5th March. Thanks to the Playing Shakespeare with Deutsche Bank initiative, each pupil received a ticket to watch a live performance of Romeo and Juliet.

This fast‑paced, 90‑minute adaptation of Romeo and Juliet was designed especially for young audiences and served as an ideal introduction to Shakespeare. The production brought to life the intense passion between Romeo and Juliet against a backdrop of escalating violence between the rival Montague and Capulet gangs. As the characters become caught in a cycle of hatred and revenge, the play raises a powerful question: can they escape the bloodshed and envision a different future?

Travelling by train to London Bridge and then walking along the South Bank, pupils experienced a taste of London’s vibrant cultural scene. The Globe Theatre, a faithful replica of the original 1599 and 1614 structures, is not only a renowned venue for Shakespearean drama but also an important cultural and educational landmark. Its design includes the famous Yard, where audience members stand—just as theatre-goers did in Shakespeare’s time.

Year 11 Pupil Feedback

“Seeing Romeo and Juliet performed at The Globe helped the story make so much more sense—everything felt real and exciting.”

“I loved standing in the Yard. It felt like stepping back in time and being part of the performance.”

“The actors were incredible, and the fast‑paced version kept me hooked from start to finish. It was the best way to revise Shakespeare!”
