World Book Day Celebrations - 2026
Pupils and staff across the school enjoyed a vibrant and inspiring celebration of reading on Thursday, 12th March, as we marked this year’s World Book Day. Always a much‑anticipated highlight of the school calendar, the event once again offered a wonderful opportunity to promote reading for pleasure and to celebrate the power of stories within our community.
Although our celebrations took place a week later than the official date—due to Key Stage 3 examinations—the enthusiasm and creativity shown by pupils ensured that the day remained as lively and memorable as ever. In fact, this year saw a record number of pupils participating, with an impressive range of imaginative and beautifully crafted costumes on display.
To set the tone for the day, pupils were encouraged to dress up as a literary character, with outfits inspired by books, plays, and poems. From classic heroes to contemporary favourites, the corridors were filled with characters from every corner of the literary world. The effort pupils put into their costumes demonstrated not only talent and creativity but also a genuine connection to the stories and authors they love.
Throughout the school day, pupils took part in a programme of reading‑focused activities coordinated by the English Department. These activities were designed to celebrate storytelling in all its forms and to nurture a lifelong love of books. Sessions included shared reading events, discussions about favourite authors, creative writing opportunities, and quizzes based on well-known texts. Many classes also explored themes such as the importance of imagination, the role of reading in developing empathy, and how stories shape our understanding of the world.
We are enormously proud of everyone who took part and grateful to the staff who helped organise such a successful and enjoyable celebration.
