Transforming Learning Spaces at St Mary’s
Since the start of term, visitors to our school have been struck by the ongoing transformation of our learning spaces and corridors. This exciting work builds on the successful refurbishment of all our English classrooms last year and reflects our continued commitment to providing an inspiring and supportive learning environment for all pupils.
Most recently, we’ve created a dedicated Year 7 learning zone designed to help pupils settle into secondary school life with confidence. This new space not only supports transition but also reinforces our school’s core values of Welcome, Hard Work, and Service.
Working in partnership with Promote Your School — a specialist education design agency — our staff have collaborated with their talented in-house team to develop visually engaging, informative, and dynamic Wall Art around the school. These designs are more than decoration; they aim to enrich learning, complement the curriculum, inspire and motivate, and most importantly, support pupil wellbeing.
A highlight of this latest phase is a striking visual timeline in the Year 7 zone, created to mark the 175th anniversary of our school’s founding in 1851. Featuring key historical moments and rarely seen archive photographs, the display helps connect our current pupils with the school's proud heritage. Another standout feature celebrates the diversity of our school community, with a world map showing the many countries from which our pupils’ families originate.
As we continue this exciting journey, our goal remains clear: to create a school environment that reflects the high aspirations, inclusive values, and rich history of our community.
