St Mary's students attend The Beginning of New School Year Mass
Our students attended the Start of New School Year Mass, on the Feast of St Jerome, at St George’s Cathedral this morning, along with other schools in the Archdiocese of Southwark. The annual Mass is a wonderful opportunity for our School and College communities in the Archdiocese of Southwark to come together, as the body of Christ.
St George’s Cathedral was full to overflowing with students from across the Archdiocese of Southwark and was blessed with magnificent singing led by choirs from St Mary’s Primary, Eltham and St Thomas More Comprehensive, Eltham
The principal celebrant, Archbishop John Wilson’s inspirational homily reminded all present of John 3:16 – ‘For God so loved the world that he gave his beloved Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life’. He asked all students to study the gospels, and not to be afraid of proclaiming regularly that they love Jesus.
During the Mass, Archbishop John Wilson, asked Governors, Headteachers, Chaplains and members of the Education Commission to renew their commitment to the Catholic life and mission of our schools and colleges. He reminded them that they are called to be signs of Christ’s living presence in their schools; ensuring that every student is valued as an individual, uniquely loved and gifted by God.
