St Mary’s pupils attend the Oscar Romero Trust Award Mass

Thursday, 26th March 2026
Pupils from St Mary’s attended the annual Oscar Romero Award Trust Mass at St George’s Cathedral, celebrated by Archbishop John Wilson. This was the third annual gathering honouring the life and legacy of St Oscar Romero for schools within the Southwark Archdiocese participating in the Oscar Romero Award Trust Scheme.
In his homily, Archbishop John encouraged everyone to follow Christ by embracing kindness, forgiveness and peace, and by actively nurturing these values in our own lives and in the lives of others. Wearing the red chasuble of Archbishop Oscar Romero, he offered a powerful reminder of Romero’s martyrdom and the profound cost of working for justice and peace.
At the end of the Mass, Mugeni Sumba, Coordinator of the Oscar Romero Award Trust, together with Trustees and Assessors, joined Archbishop John as he presented certificates to schools that had achieved various stages of the award over the past year. The Archdiocese of Southwark now has the highest number of participating schools, with nearly 90— including St Mary’s—already receiving the award.
