Runners-up in the Mock Trial Competition
On Saturday, 18th March, students from Year 8 to Year 10 in our school’s Debating Club entered The Young Citizen’s Magistrates Mock Trial Competition, which is a prestigious national competition. The area heat was held in the Magistrates’ Court in Bromley, with our student competing against teams from six other schools.
The Magistrates’ Court Mock Trial Competition helps young people understand how the law touches every aspect of their lives, gaining an insight into how the legal justice system works.
Our students were given access to resources, including a specially written criminal case, to help them prepare legal arguments. At the magistrates’ court they went head-to-head with other schools to prosecute and defend the case, taking on the role of lawyers, witnesses and court officials as they presented either the prosecution or defence case.
Our team were Highly Commended and came second in the heat. Thank you to Mrs Stephenson who prepared the students for the mock trial and accompanied them on the day.
