Peter House Celebrate the Feast of The Chair of St Peter

Friday, 13th February 2026
Pupils and staff from St Peter’s House attended Holy Mass at St Mary’s Church, West Croydon, to celebrate one of the feast days of their patron saint, The Feast of the Chair of Saint Peter, which fell during the half-term break.
The feast dates back to the 3rd century and is distinguished from the day of Peter’s martyrdom celebrated on 29th June, which is shared with St Paul. The feast originated around the “cathedra” of Peter, the place where the Bishop of Rome resided and governed. The “cathedra”, was a fixed “seat” of the Bishop, placed in the mother church of the Diocese – hence the word “cathedral” – which was the symbol of the Bishop’s authority who, as a successor of the Apostles, is called to protect the flock and transmit the teaching of the Gospel to the Christian community.
After Mass, the celebration continued under the leadership of Mr S. Davis, with the distribution of a special cake. The occasion served as a reminder to pupils of the importance the values exemplified by St Peter, as shown in our own school’s core values of Welcome, Hard Work and Service.
