Key Stage 4 Geography Fieldwork Visit to Juniper Hall

 Friday 8th May, 2026

Our Key Stage 4 pupils visited Juniper Hall to complete an important part of their GCSE Geography fieldwork. This experience supports both Component 1: The Physical Environment and Component 3: Geographical Investigations.

Located in the beautiful surroundings of the North Downs, on the edge of Box Hill in Surrey, Juniper Hall provided an excellent setting for fieldwork. Pupils worked under the guidance of experienced Field Studies Council instructors, exploring an area rich in rivers, deciduous woodland and grassland.

Throughout the day, pupils carried out a range of fieldwork activities to investigate how river characteristics change along its course. They collected quantitative data, including measurements of river discharge, and used qualitative methods to study features such as meanders and other river landforms.

This hands-on experience allowed pupils to deepen their understanding of river environments, develop key geographical skills, and begin forming their own investigative questions based on what they observed in the field.
