Holocaust Memorial Day 2025
On 27th January 2025, staff gathered before school to hold prayers for the victims of the Holocaust, marking the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest of the Nazi concentration camps.
The Holocaust is a vital component of our school’s History curriculum, with all Year 9 pupils currently studying this important topic. In fact, it is the only historical event that is a compulsory part of the National Curriculum.
Through the study of the Holocaust, we aim to deepen students' understanding by:
- Providing an appropriate historical overview of key aspects of the Holocaust
- Exploring the roots of antisemitism
- Deepening knowledge of key individuals, places, and events
- Encouraging students to challenge common myths and misconceptions
- Enabling pupils to understand how and why the Holocaust happened
- Supporting students to appreciate the impact of the Holocaust on ordinary people
- Inviting students to reflect on the historical significance of the Holocaust and its relevance today
We are grateful for the support of The Holocaust Education Trust, whose invaluable resources help enhance our pupils’ understanding of the Holocaust and its profound impact on our world.
