GCSE Results 2024
Thursday, 22 August was a most memorable day at our school with the publication of GCSE and BTEC exam results. Overall, the results show a pleasing improvement on our already good record with an increase in the percentage of pupils awarded grades 4 and above compared to recent years. The majority of students achieved their target grades enabling them to transition to their first-choice post-16 destinations. There were some fantastic individual performances including Florian and Angel who achieved the top grades in all their subjects, including sixteen grades 9 & 8 between them.
While the school’s Progress 8 grade is provisional at this stage, all indications show that there will be a marked increase this year when the DfE publishes the official statistics in the weeks ahead. What makes these results even more impressive is that nationally GCSE results have fallen this year for the third year in a row.
Mr Shields has paid tribute to this particular year group for their hard work and endeavour, remembering that they were in Year 7 when the COVID crisis hit, and lockdown was imposed. However, unlike schools nationally, this year group in particular showed great resilience in all aspects of school life with excellent attendance, outstanding behaviour, achievement awards and leadership skills all being significant characteristics of the cohort. He also paid tribute to all the staff who have worked closely with this year group - once again showing that the inspection report comment that teachers at St Mary’s “go the extra mile” is as true as ever.
We wish them all well in the months ahead and remind them that they will always be part of our St Mary's family. We look forward to following their progress in the years ahead, wherever they continue their educational journeys and careers.
