St Mary's Catholic High School

Fr Michael celebrates our Year 7 Welcome Mass

On Tuesday, 27th September, we welcomed Fr Michael to our school as the celebrant at our Year 7 Welcome Mass for new students and their parents.

The celebration of the Mass is at the heart of Catholic life and worship here at St Mary’s Catholic High School. It is therefore appropriate that our new students, along with their parents, marked the start of their journey of faith here at our school with the celebration of Mass. It also cements the key relationship between Home, School and Parish.

Fr Michael, using the Gospel of Jesus calming the stormy sea, explained that we should always trust in God, especially in challenging times. He also described our new students as receiving the Light of Christ as they start their time here at St Mary’s – a light which they will carry with them in their time at our school, and will be passed to future students in their time.

Fr Michael joined our parish church of St Mary's, West Croydon this month, having been ordained to the priesthood by Archbishop John Wilson in July. We are looking forward to welcoming Fr Michael to many more school celebrations in the years ahead, including class masses and other liturgical celebrations.
