Bishop Gerard celebrates our End of Year School Mass
Thursday, 9th July 2026
St Mary’s was honoured to welcome Bishop Gerard Bradley to celebrate our End of Year Mass with the whole school community gathered in the sports hall. This special occasion provided an opportunity to reflect on the past academic year, celebrating both its successes and the challenges we have overcome.
In his homily, Bishop Gerard focused on the opening line of St Matthew’s Gospel: “Proclaim as you go, saying, ‘The Kingdom of heaven is close at hand.’” He encouraged pupils to consider what these words mean in their everyday lives, as many people can find it difficult to recognise the presence of God’s kingdom. Bishop Gerard reminded us that the kingdom of heaven is evident within our school community, particularly through our words, actions and commitment to our core values. He also highlighted our four House Saints as inspiring examples of people who recognised God’s presence and dedicated their lives to sharing the Good News.
Despite the high temperatures in the sports hall, pupils participated reverently and enthusiastically in the Mass, with all either receiving Holy Communion or a blessing. The quality of the music and singing was especially impressive and continues to improve year after year.
We extend our sincere thanks to Bishop Gerard, our readers, altar servers and choir, as well as everyone who helped make this celebration such a meaningful and successful occasion.
