St Mary's Catholic High School

All pupils share Christmas Lunch

In two mammoth sessions, every pupil in our school sat down to a traditional Christmas lunch on Wednesday, 20th December in what has become a tradition at our school. Nearly 600 turkey lunches*, with ice cream, were served to our pupils by members of staff in our canteen and assembly hall, complete with crackers, table decorations and Christmas music. There were plenty of colourful Christmas jumpers on show as the pupils shared the special meal together.

Sharing meal experiences and memories with food is important as it allows our school community to come together and bond over a shared experience. This is especially important in so many cultures where food is central to social gatherings, and of course there is no better example of this in the Last Supper when Jesus shared the Passover meal with his closest followers and friends, having first washed their feet. An important element of our annual Christmas meal is that all members of teaching and support staff served the meal to our pupils, ensuring that they had enough to eat and were enjoying the occasion.

Special thanks to our Catering Manager, Yvonne Ng, and her team, for preparing our Christmas lunch.

*a vegetarian option was also available.
