Advent Carol Service
On Thursday, 8th December, we held our annual Advent service of readings and carols in our school hall, full of parents, pupils and staff. After having to postpone the carol service last year due to the concerns of the Covid Omicron virus, it was wonderful to resume our normal Advent celebrations this year.
The service followed the tradition pattern of readings from the Old and New Testaments, interspersed with traditional Christmas hymns. The readings were carefully chosen, and expertly read by students from all year groups, to focus on the events leading up to the birth of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, on Christmas Day.
Our school choir beautifully sang two hymns - ‘Just Another Star’ (C. Barratt & K. Jenkins) and ‘The Lord Bless You and Keep You’ (John Rutter).
We were delighted that Fr Michael, from our parish church of St Mary’s, was able to join us for the celebration, reading the Gospel and giving us a special Advent blessing at the end of the service.
Special thanks to all the readers, the members of the school choir, including staff, Mrs Akhurst for the piano accompaniment, and to Miss Wheeler for leading the choir.
